Emissions Development Introduction
The vehicle emission facility is used for testing vehicles with spark ignition engines fuelled by Petrol, LPG, CNG or other alternative fuels, to determine exhaust emission levels and fuel consumption. The facility is capable of testing vehicles ranging from small passenger cars to light duty commercial vehicles. The experienced staff run tests defined in European, Federal and Japanese legislated test procedures as well as project specific drive cycles.
The facilities features 4 banks of Horiba exhaust gas analysers capable of measuring pre, mid bed and post catalyst raw gases to provide modal and catalyst conversion efficiency data, in addition to the dilute bag sample. Test data, auxiliary analogue and temperature channels are logged, processed by Horiba PC Vets and exported in MS Excel format.
The chassis dynamometer is enclosed and the background air-conditioned to maintain a constant temperature. An air scrubber ensures low, stable, background hydrocarbon levels making the facility particularly suitable for testing future generations of low emission vehicles. A road speed-tracking fan ensures adequate cooling air passes over the vehicle during the test cycle.
The facility is registered with both the VCA and TüV for Witnessed and CoP testing of Petrol, LPG and CNG fuelled vehicles.
